Synopsis

Kong Hongjun grew up in isolation on Mount Taiheng as a half-yao, so when he finally gets the chance to enter the human world, he jumps at it. His mission is straightforward enough: find whoever killed his father, wipe out the Black Jiao and its yao forces that have taken over Chang'an, and return a magical artifact called the Heart Lamp to a Chen family descendant. Things go wrong immediately—on his first night in the city, the Heart Lamp accidentally ends up inside a military general named Li Jinglong. Then Kong Hongjun gets recruited into Chang'an's Court of Exorcism, and guess who his new captain is? Li Jinglong, now a disgraced officer. They're joined by a fellow yao, a foreign nobleman, and an anxious scholar to hunt down and eliminate the yao infesting the city. The catch is that Kong Hongjun has to keep his true nature hidden from Li Jinglong, who despises yao—all while trying to figure out how to extract the Heart Lamp from the guy's body without blowing his cover.
