Synopsis

During Japan's brutal feudal wars, the Awa clan is on the brink of destruction at the hands of a rival clan empowered by demons. Salvation arrives in an unexpected form: their family dog returns with the enemy warlord's head—but then demands to marry the lord's daughter. The strange union produces offspring, but both parents are killed before the eight pups are born. These eight unborn puppies reincarnate as human warriors known as the Hakkenden, each embodying one of the eight virtues of bushido. Scattered across different paths of violence and revenge, the eight eventually find their way to each other and unite as a formidable force, determined to defeat the demons and restore their clan's honor.
