Kaname Sudou, a high school student, gets roped into trying Darwin's Game after a classmate invites him to play. The moment he opens the app, a green snake lunges out of his phone and bites him, knocking him unconscious. He wakes up in the school infirmary with no bite marks and no explanation, so he figures it was just some weird hallucination and heads home. But curiosity wins out. He opens the app again, and this time it actually looks like a normal battle game. Relieved, he jumps into his first match. That relief doesn't last long—his opponent doesn't stay on the screen. The guy materializes right in front of him in the real world, knife in hand, and starts hunting him down. Suddenly it clicks: Darwin's Game isn't a game at all. It's an actual fight for survival.
