Synopsis

Mushi are the most fundamental form of life—if you can even call them that. They exist without purpose or direction, simply being. They're amoral forces of nature, neither good nor evil. They can take countless shapes, mimicking plants, diseases, natural phenomena like rainbows, pretty much anything. But even that barely scratches the surface of what they actually are. Most people don't even know Mushi exist. What little is known about them is fragmentary at best, which makes sense when you consider how rare it is for humans to encounter them directly. So what are Mushi? And why are they here? Those are the questions that drive Ginko, a Mushishi—someone who studies Mushi and tries to understand where they fit in the natural world. He travels from place to place, tracking down rumors and strange occurrences that might involve Mushi, always searching for answers. Maybe those answers will lead somewhere bigger. Maybe even to the meaning of life itself.
