It's 2199 AD. After picking up the Cosmo Reverse System at Iscandar, the Yamato is finally heading home through the Large Magellanic Cloud. Then they run into trouble—a mysterious faction called Gatlantis, led by a commander named Goran Dagaamu of Thunder. He demands they hand over the ship. The Yamato bolts to avoid a confrontation, but gets hammered by the Gatlantis' signature weapon, the Flame Direct Attack Cannon, which can fire across space itself. The Yamato manages to escape, but the attack warps them into a strange, colorful dimension. Stranded and disoriented, the crew kills the engines and decides to investigate a nearby planet. Kodai, Kiryū, Sawamura, Niimi, and Aihara beam down to scout for information. What they find is shocking: a ship that shouldn't be there. Meanwhile, Dagaamu tracks the Yamato's warp signature straight to this same dimension. As it turns out, the planet they've stumbled onto is exactly what he's been hunting for all along.
