Doumu Shinjou is a 10-year-old kid with serious baseball talent—he inherited it from his father, a legendary Yomiuri Giants player who's now dead. His mom and older sister want him to quit the sport, but that's not happening. Before dying, his dad taught him one special move: a magic shot. When his mom gives him his father's old glove, Doumu pulls off the shot during a Giants training session and gets signed on the spot. With help from the team's veteran players, Doumu becomes nearly unstoppable at home games in the Tokyo Dome, where his father made his name. No batter in the Japanese pro league can handle his magic shot. The catch? He's only allowed to play at home. As Doumu progresses, he meets new rivals and friends, including Melody Norman, an American girl who disguises herself as a boy since women aren't permitted to play. The Giants start dominating the league—until Don Carlos shows up. This mysterious Spanish ex-bullfighter plays for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp and apparently has some kind of history with Doumu's father. Now the question is whether Doumu can lead the Giants to a championship win.
