Synopsis

Humanity's nearly wiped out. Giant monsters called Klaxosaurs forced the survivors into massive walled cities, and the only way to fight back is with massive robots called FranXX. These machines need two pilots—a boy and a girl—and kids are literally bred and trained from childhood just to do this job. It's basically all they know and all they're good for. Hiro's one of those kids, but he's washed out. He failed his pilot exam and skipped graduation, choosing instead to mope around the forest by a lake. That's where he meets Zero Two, a girl with actual horns sprouting from her head. She introduces herself casually, but there's a catch—Zero Two's famous as the "Partner Killer," an infamous pilot with a reputation for destroying her partners. Before Hiro can even process this, a Klaxosaur attacks the city. Zero Two jumps into her FranXX to fight it, but she gets brutally damaged in the battle and crashes near Hiro. Her current partner's dead, so she turns to him with a simple offer: pilot with her instead. Somehow they sync perfectly and destroy the monster without breaking a sweat. Suddenly Hiro's got a second chance at proving himself. But Zero Two's past is pretty dark, and getting close to her might be playing with fire.
