Joe Shimamura and his fellow cyborgs face off against the Bresudo—a shadowy group of superhuman beings with enhanced intellect who've been secretly steering human history since ancient times. Nobody really knows what they want, and most people don't even believe they exist. That changes when American journalist Lucie Davenport travels to Texas hunting for information about one particular family and stumbles onto the cyborgs instead. By this point, the cyborgs have stepped back from their old role as humanity's protectors now that the UN has established its Guardian troops, so they're finally trying to live normal lives. But the Bresudo's emergence drags them back into the fight.
