Wangan Midnight
Street racers hit Tokyo's Wangan Route every night chasing one thing: speed. A newcomer shows up with a Nissan Fairlady Z—a car notorious enough to have earned the nickname "The Devil Z"—and immediately turns heads. Eriko Asakura tries warning him off; her brother died in an accident involving that exact car. But the newcomer has a strange coincidence working against him: he's also named Akio, and he becomes obsessed with the Devil Z despite totaling it twice. Akio drops out of high school to work his repair bills, but the car connects him to the Wangan's serious players. There's the Blackbird's owner—legendary for his Porsche 911 Turbo—plus Tatsuya Shima, a surgeon who races on the side, and Reina Akikawa, a model by day and a terrifyingly skilled Skyline GT-R driver by night. Through them, Akio tracks down Jun Kitami, the reclusive engineer who designed the Devil Z's engine. That meeting sparks something in Jun; he goes back to building insanely powerful engines, each one as dangerous as the last. Now the entire Wangan Route is caught in an escalating race against the Devil Z, with no way out in sight.
