Houseki no Kuni
In a ravaged future world, crystalline beings called Gems live among the ruins left by six meteor impacts. Each Gem has a designated job—mostly fighting off the Lunarians, alien invaders who shatter them to pieces and collect them as trophies. Phosphophyllite, or Phos for short, is a young and brittle Gem desperate to contribute to the war effort. Instead of combat, though, they get stuck writing an encyclopedia due to their fragile nature. While working on it, Phos befriends Cinnabar, a brilliant Gem stuck doing night patrol on a remote island because their body produces a deadly corrosive poison. Seeing how miserable Cinnabar is, Phos becomes determined to find a role that works for both of them—something useful that lets them actually matter. The story follows Phos as they search for their place in the world and try to keep their friends safe.
