The Dragon Dentist
Ryuu no Haisha
War is tearing two neighboring countries apart, but one has a massive advantage: an ancient dragon bound by magic to defend the nation. Problem is, these world-ending creatures are completely useless if they get cavities. That's where the dragon dentists come in—a specialized unit dedicated to keeping the dragon's teeth in fighting shape. Nonoko Kishii was the sole survivor of a brutal recruitment process. To become a dragon dentist, you have to experience a vision of your own death and accept it without resistance. Knowing exactly how they'll die, the dentists throw themselves into their work. Then one day, a new recruit arrives who didn't go through the test: Bel, a young enemy soldier who was killed by his own men and mysteriously brought back to life by the dragon's teeth. His resurrection is apparently a bad omen, but he ends up assigned to Nonoko as a trainee anyway. The real question is whether Bel can come to terms with the dentists' unusual relationship with death—and whether he'll be able to help them face whatever disaster is coming.
