After the Otter Empire conquers the Kappa Kingdom, the exiled prince Keppi finds himself powerless against the Kapa-zombies terrorizing the world—creatures born from people's deepest desires and controlled by the Otters. Desperate, he recruits three unlikely heroes: Kazuki Yasaka, a boy bound to carry a mysterious box; his childhood friend Enta Jinnai; and Tooi Kuji, a delinquent who's always skipping school. Keppi gives them the ability to transform into Kappa by extracting their shirikodama, a mythical organ, allowing them to fight back. But there's a catch—to actually defeat the zombies, the boys have to sync up mentally and physically, which means laying bare their deepest secrets to each other. As the last hope for the Kappa Kingdom, they're forced to open up in ways they never thought possible, discovering along the way just how fragile—and how precious—real connection can be.
