Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms
Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana wo Kazarou
Maquia belongs to the Iorph, an immortal race that's lived apart from humanity for centuries. But despite being surrounded by her people, she's always felt isolated—she was orphaned young and has spent her days daydreaming about the outside world, too afraid of her clan's warnings to actually explore it. That changes when the kingdom of Mezarte invades. They're after two things: control of the last remaining giant dragons called the Renato, which they already have, and the secret to immortality hidden in Iorph blood. Their assault is brutal and devastating, wiping out most of the clan. During the chaos, a wild Renato grabs Maquia and carries her far away before collapsing dead. She's alone in an unfamiliar forest when she hears a baby crying. She finds him abandoned in a ruined village and decides to raise him herself, calling him Ariel. It's not an easy choice—she has no idea how to live in the human world or care for a child who'll age years while she barely changes, and she's still haunted by her own loneliness. But she's committed to making it work somehow.
