Synopsis

A man wakes up alone in the woods with no memory of who he is or how he got there. Everything around him is completely unfamiliar until he meets Kuon, a girl with animal ears and a tail who saves his life and brings him back to her village. Along the way, they fight off giant centipede monsters and a mysterious red slime. Once they reach town, Kuon gives him the name Haku, after a local historical figure. He quickly notices he's the only person without animal ears—everyone else has them. Haku and Kuon head to the capital of Yamato, the country they live in, where they pick up new allies and get caught up in the nation's political turmoil without really meaning to. As the story unfolds, Haku tries to figure out what's really going on in this strange world. He uncovers the truth behind the red slimes and works to prevent a war from breaking out between the neighboring countries.
