In early 2000s Japan, the UN establishes the Kurobe Research Institute to study a mysterious artifact unearthed during the construction of the Kurobe Dam. Scientists from all over the world flock to the facility to crack its secrets, while their kids live normal lives at the nearby Mt. Tate International Senior High School. Yukina Shirahane is a quiet high school student whose mother heads the research institute. One day while visiting her mom at work, Yukina accidentally solves part of the artifact's puzzle—and a young samurai materializes in front of her. His name is Kennosuke Tokisada Ouma, and he's from the Sengoku period. When an alien threat suddenly emerges, Yukina and Kennosuke are forced to defend Earth together. As they fight, Yukina gradually uncovers the truth about who Kennosuke really is and why he's so determined to protect her.
