Nio grew up as an orphan, but found his place working as a waiter at his adoptive grandmother's restaurant. That quiet life ends when Toshizou Hijikata and Souji Okita—members of a ruthless ronin group called Miburo—use Nio and his sister Iroha as bait to catch child abductors. After that incident, Toshizou offers Nio a chance to join Miburo and help protect Kyoto. Frustrated by how weak he is, Nio throws himself into training to match his new teammates' sword skills. But earning the respect of fellow Miburo members Tarou Tanaka and Hajime Saitou proves harder than he expected. Determined to prove himself, Nio has to figure out what justice really means to him and become strong enough to handle whatever comes his way.
