Synopsis

Hotaru Hinase is perfectly content being single. At sixteen, she's never experienced romance and doesn't really think she's cut out for it—the whole concept feels foreign to her. As long as she has her friends and family to enjoy life's small moments with, she's happy. One day, she witnesses her schoolmate Hananoi having a brutal breakup. She's never actually talked to him before, but when she spots him sitting alone in the snow afterward, something makes her hold her umbrella over him. The next day at school, he confesses to her out of nowhere. Hotaru turns him down, but Hananoi isn't deterred. He keeps pushing to get to know her, changing his hair, tracking down her lost hairpin in the snow—basically doing whatever it takes to win her over. Hotaru doesn't feel anything romantic for him, but she figures that if she spends enough time with him, maybe she'll actually learn how to love. So she agrees to date him and starts figuring out what it means to be someone's girlfriend, like how to actually reciprocate the effort he keeps putting in.
