During the chaos of the An Lushan Rebellion, the Tang Dynasty's Central Plains are overrun with monsters and plagued by famine. A young man named Li Haobai leaves Bashu hoping to reach the front lines and earn military glory. Before he can get there, a monster swallows him whole. Through sheer luck, he ends up merging with the guardian spirit of a dragon vein and gains the power of a black dragon. From that point on, he's caught up in the conflicts between various factions all vying for power.
