Synopsis

Rakurou Hizutome is a high school student with a weird hobby: he plays bad games. We're talking buggy, unbalanced, nearly unplayable stuff. He goes by the username Sunraku in the gaming community, and he's pretty well-known among the small crowd who actually enjoy that kind of thing. When someone recommends Shangri-La Frontier—a popular, polished VR game—as a palate cleanser from all the garbage he usually plays, he figures why not. Starting the game, Rakurou makes an unconventional choice: he immediately sells most of his starter equipment for extra cash, keeping only a pair of boxers, a bird mask, and some basic weapons. It's a risky move, but he's hooked from the moment he logs in, grinding methodically as his character levels up. That confidence doesn't last long, though. Once he bumps into some genuinely dangerous monsters, he realizes that a mainstream title is a whole different beast from the broken mess he's used to. Still, all those hours spent mastering janky games pay off. Rakurou adapts, learning as he goes, and before too long, Sunraku's bizarre approach to the game catches on. His unconventional playstyle becomes something of a phenomenon in Shangri-La Frontier.
