Synopsis

Thirty-five-year-old novelist Makio Koudai and her older sister Minori had always clashed—Minori constantly criticized her for being different. So when Makio learns that Minori and her husband have died in a car accident, she doesn't feel the expected grief. That changes when she goes to identify their bodies and unexpectedly reunites with her fifteen-year-old niece Asa Takumi, whom she hasn't seen in years. Asa is reeling from losing her parents, but Makio validates her messy feelings and suggests she start keeping a diary to process the loss. When it becomes clear that no other relatives will step up to care for Asa, Makio decides to take her in as her guardian—despite having no experience with raising a kid. Now the two have to figure out how to live together while navigating their own complicated lives.
