The Flying House
Tondera House no Daibouken
The series kicks off mid-hide-and-seek. Justin Casey finishes counting and goes looking for his friends Angela and Corkey Roberts, brother and sister, in the woods. A sudden storm rolls in while he's searching. Justin manages to find them just before the rain gets heavy, and the three bolt for shelter. They stumble across a house tucked away in the trees—one Justin swears wasn't there before. At first it seems empty, but they quickly discover a robot named Solar Ion Robot, or SIR, living there. The house belongs to Professor Humphrey Bumble, who's pretty proud of his latest invention: a time machine. When he tries to recreate Benjamin Franklin's lightning experiment by flying a kite outside to power the thing up, something goes wrong. SIR's personality glitches out temporarily, and the whole house gets sent careening into the past. The kids don't realize how stuck they are. Between the professor's mistakes and general incompetence at piloting the machine, getting home becomes way harder than expected. But while they're stuck in the past, they end up witnessing—and sometimes getting involved in—a bunch of events from the New Testament. They see everything from John the Baptist's birth all the way through to Paul's rise as an apostle. And somehow, they manage to do all this without really messing anything up.
