Hikaru no Go
Hikaru Shindou finds an old go board while rummaging through his grandfather's attic. The moment he touches it, a voice speaks to him—and then he blacks out. When he comes to, the voice is still there. It belongs to Fujiwara no Sai, a spirit from Japan's Heian Era who was once a go master at the imperial court. Sai's love for the game is so intense that he's stuck around as a ghost, desperate to finally achieve a divine technique that no player has ever pulled off. He needs a living partner to make it happen, so he recruits Hikaru. Hikaru has zero interest in go, but he goes along with it anyway, just playing whatever moves Sai tells him to. Everything changes when he faces off against Akira Touya, a young go prodigy. Watching Akira play awakens something in Hikaru—a genuine love for the game. What started as a reluctant favor to a dead guy becomes his real passion, and his rivalry with Akira becomes the driving force behind his journey into the competitive go world.
