Synopsis

Three decades after the JAM—an alien species from hyperspace—invaded Earth through Antarctica, humanity has not just repelled them but pushed the war onto their home planet of Fairy. Now the UN maintains five military bases there, locked in an ongoing conflict mostly forgotten by people back home. The Fairy Air Force runs a sophisticated operation with cutting-edge tech and weapons systems to keep the JAM at bay. Lieutenant Rei Fukai pilots a Super Sylph fighter called Yukikaze for the FAF's Boomerang reconnaissance squadron. His job is straightforward: fly high, watch the dogfights, gather intel on JAM tactics. He's an exceptional pilot, but honestly, he's just as dependent on Yukikaze's advanced AI and arsenal as the plane is on him. The weapon system practically thinks on its own. Most FAF personnel can't stand Fukai—he's withdrawn, doesn't play well with others. But he keeps flying missions with Yukikaze regardless. Then during an especially brutal engagement, something unexpected appears: another Super Sylph, same model as his, but it's unresponsive and acting aggressively. Fukai has no idea what he's looking at.
