It's 2050, and Derrida Yvain is a celebrated engineer at Rebuild—a manufacturing company his father founded—mainly because of his work on the "Autonomous Machine DZ." One day, he and his coworker Nathan spot a serious flaw in the DZs. They try to alert their boss, but nobody listens. Even though both of them know something's wrong, they decide to worry about it later and head to Nathan's daughter Mage's birthday party instead. That turns out to be a mistake. The next day, after what seems like a normal morning, unknown attackers strike. During the chaos, Derrida ends up in a cryogenic chamber and doesn't wake up for ten years. When he does, the world has gone to hell—there's a full-scale war happening. A group of malfunctioning DZs nearly kills him, and he's ready to give up, but then he remembers Nathan's final words: "Take care of Mage." So despite everything, Derrida decides to find her.
