In August 2002, Mount Fuji erupted while massive earthquakes and tsunamis devastated Japan, throwing the entire country into crisis. Then another huge quake hit on August 15, literally splitting Japan in two. As Japanese refugees scattered across the world, the government accepted aid from China and the USA—which led to China controlling the north and America controlling the south. Fifteen years later, Japanese refugees living in Taiwan are in constant conflict with locals over jobs and resources, their situation showing no real improvement. Genichiro Ryu, a survivor of those catastrophic events, was raised in Taiwan by adoptive parents. He ends up caught in the middle of the Taiwanese-Japanese tensions, determined to find a way for both groups to coexist.
