Synopsis

Rakka is a Haibane—a winged, halo-bearing creature—who wakes up in the village of Old Home with no memory of her past. She's named after a dream of falling that came to her while in her cocoon. Life in this strange town is peaceful enough at first, but the Haibane are bound by rigid rules: they can't leave the village or approach the surrounding walls. Things get more unsettling when Haibane mysteriously vanish on their "Day of Flight," and nobody—not even Rakka—has any real understanding of what they are or where they come from. As Rakka and the other Haibane navigate existence without their memories, they grapple with the pain of their forgotten past and search for some kind of salvation or peace.
