It's the early 1700s during the Kyouhou era, when merchant culture is booming across Japan. In Yoshiwara, Edo's famous red light district, there's a beloved courtesan named Usugumo—beautiful, charming, and skilled at her trade. What nobody knows is that she's actually the daughter of a Christian prostitute and Tokugawa Yoshimune, the eighth Shogun himself. The political climate won't allow her to openly claim that connection, so she's stuck living a double life. Everything shifts when she crosses paths with Kikunosuke, a blond-haired thief with his own agenda. He becomes the catalyst for her next chapter. She teams up with him, a doctor named Aoto Touichirou who practices the still-unfamiliar Western medicine, and her cat Kotetsu to form a thief group called the Kikugumi. It's an unusual crew, but they work. The problem is, a mysterious organization has caught wind of Usugumo—and they're sending someone after her.
