It's 199X in Kushiro, Hokkaido when three massive Dragonites suddenly appear and start leveling the city. Their attack has an unexpected side effect—it breaks the seal that's been holding Jashin Drago, an evil deity, prisoner for the last 200 years. Drago had originally been sealed away by a warrior bearing the mark of the Liger, but with that warrior long dead, Drago and his empress Zara are finally free to take over Earth with an army of biomechanical beasts. The Japanese military can't do anything against these creatures. Among the evacuees is Ken Taiga, a shy 16-year-old kid caught in the chaos. Then something clicks—Ken realizes he's actually descended from that ancient Liger warrior. Rage kicks in, and his birthmark suddenly flares to life. He throws his hand to the sky and screams the transformation phrase: "LIGER!!!" In an instant, he's covered in demonic, long-haired biomechanical armor. Ken has become Jushin Liger, and now he's ready to take on Drago and everything else Zara throws at him.
