Synopsis

Shuurei Kou and her childhood friend Eigetsu To, a brilliant young man from a poor background, have just been made co-governors of Sa province—one of eight provinces in Saiunkoku. Their plan is to turn it into an academic hub, hoping to finally bring the region some much-needed development and prosperity. But things go wrong fast. While Shuurei heads to the capital to push the project through official channels, a deadly plague breaks out across Sa province. Eigetsu's left to hold down the fort, except his old personal demons start getting in the way. That gives Shuurei's enemies the opening they need to stir up chaos and attack her credibility while she's away. Shuurei's always dreamed of becoming a government official, and she's actually doing it—but being the first woman in the job comes with massive pressure. With the plague spreading, her authority crumbling, and her partner distracted by personal baggage, she's facing the biggest test of her life. Does she have what it takes to pull through?
