In 2035, a catastrophic event called "The Burst" erupts at a Japanese research facility, spawning Matter—a self-replicating, rapidly spreading substance that devours everything in its path. It spreads through the Kurobe Gorge, consuming dams and military installations while task forces race to contain it before it reaches the ocean. Meanwhile, mercenaries are after their own answers about where it came from. Aiko Tachibana survived exposure to the Matter, but now lives under strict medical observation. She passes the time folding paper planes while recovering. That changes when transfer student Yuuya Kanzaki arrives and starts asking uncomfortable questions. Why hasn't she gotten injured since her rescue? Why can she suddenly walk without her wheelchair? He insists there's far more to Aiko than anyone's told her—and that she's the only one who can stop The Burst. With multiple factions closing in on Aiko, she and Yuuya have to find allies fast and head straight into the heart of the infected gorge. It's a desperate gamble to stay ahead of the conspiracy hunting them, but they'll have to face the Matter itself—a fluid, shape-shifting enemy they can't outrun forever.
