Amanda created Rudger as her imaginary friend, and he's invisible to everyone but her. They spend their time having adventures in the attic of her mom's bookshop, bound by three rules: never disappear, always have each other's backs, and never cry. Things take a dark turn when Mr. Bunting shows up at the door. He's a creepy guy with a talent for hunting down imaginary friends and stealing them from kids. He's got an eerie girl with him who, like Rudger and Amanda, exists in that invisible space between real and unreal. During one of Mr. Bunting's attempts to snatch Rudger, Amanda ends up in a car accident that kills her. Now Rudger's completely alone—hunted by Mr. Bunting and facing a terrifying reality: if he gets forgotten, he'll simply cease to exist.
