Synopsis

An animated film about Ryoukan, a real Buddhist monk and poet from 18th-century Japan. Born into wealth in Izumozaki during the Edo Period, Ryoukan turned his back on an easy life to pursue Buddhism and find the true meaning of existence. Starting in his early adulthood, he threw himself into rigorous training that meant living alone and dirt poor. Throughout it all, he stayed humble and down-to-earth—genuinely kind to everyone he met, completely indifferent to fame or money. Ryoukan discovered his peace through nature and time spent with children. His quiet wisdom and warm personality left a lasting impression on those around him, and his teachings continue to resonate today.
