Chiyo Mihama is a 10-year-old academic prodigy starting high school—basically a tiny genius who loves plush dolls and cooking. Her homeroom teacher, Yukari Tanizaki, is such a disaster that she'll steal a student's bike just to avoid being late, so "strange" doesn't really mean much in this class. The homeroom is packed with weirdos anyway. There's Tomo Takino, an energetic tomboy who's all enthusiasm and no brain cells. Koyomi Mizuhara, Tomo's best friend, has an even shorter temper than Chiyo, which is saying something. Sakaki looks like an intimidating athletic supermodel but is actually super gentle—though she's obsessed with cats in a way that causes her constant pain. Then transfer student Ayumu Kasuga shows up, a spacey girl with some weird theories about Chiyo's pigtails. The series follows these girls through the typical ups and downs of high school: lots of laughs, plenty of weirdness, and occasional moments that actually hit different when you think about how temporary it all is.
