Synopsis

Professor Bond is researching an island in the Java Sea when his son stumbles upon a giant ape and becomes his friend. Together they work to protect Kong from Dr. Who, who wants to exploit him for his own purposes. Each episode alternates between two separate cartoons: a King Kong story, then a Tom of T.H.U.M.B. segment, then another King Kong story. Tom of T.H.U.M.B. is a comedic spy cartoon featuring a secret agent and his Asian sidekick. The animation credits differ between the two segments—MORI Yasuji and KANISHI Takao are credited on the Tom of T.H.U.M.B. portions as character designers or animation directors, but not on King Kong. This was the first cartoon series made entirely in Japan specifically for the American TV market.
