Humanity has colonized distant worlds and found ruins of dead civilizations everywhere—until they discover the Buff Clan, an actual living alien species on the planet Solo. When Karala Ajiba, daughter of the Buff Clan's military commander, ends up stranded there, her people respond with overwhelming force to retrieve her. Three colonists—Cosmo Yuki, Kasha Imhof, and Bes Jordan—manage to escape by piloting three separate trucks that combine into a giant robot called the Ideon. After Solo is destroyed, the survivors escape aboard the Solo Ship, a spacecraft they'd recently uncovered. Now they're desperately trying to outrun the Buff Clan and find somewhere safe to settle. But the Buff Clan isn't giving up the chase anytime soon.
