Princess Emela of Xiyue is bold and spirited, but her journey to Chang'an to marry the ninth prince of Tang, Li Qiang, gets off to a rough start—literally, when rebels ambush her on the road. That's just the beginning of her problems though. The real challenge is breaking through the prince's cold, distant exterior. After taking the name Li Mingyue as his bride, she's set on making the marriage work, partly out of genuine effort and partly because war between their countries hangs in the balance if she fails. But the Tang court is a minefield of backstabbing and political schemes, and the couple has to carefully pick their way through conspiracies threatening the realm—all while figuring out their relationship in the process.
