The Gaira aliens are holed up in the Arctic, plotting to take over Earth. They've captured Dr. Yan and forced him to build them the perfect weapon—a transformable aerial robot named Groizer X. Before they can use it, the robot breaks free with Dr. Yan's daughter Rita on board and crashes in Japan. Jo Kaisaka, a pilot, finds the injured Rita and takes control of Groizer X. From that point on, Jo and Rita team up to defend Earth against the Gaira's invasion.
