Right after Ryuuji Takane clinches the Champion Carnival title, the U.S. Junior Champion Black Shaft shows up and challenges Japan's best fighters. It's terrible timing—the World Tournament is about to kick off, and now Ryuuji, Takeshi Kawai, Kazuki Shinatora, Ishimatsu Katori, and superstar Jun Kenzaki have to prove themselves not just to Shaft, but to the entire world. Here's the catch: Shaft isn't recruiting actual boxers for his challenge. Instead, he's assembling a weird roster that includes a death row lifer who leads the Great Angels (one of America's most brutal gangs), some mysterious woman, and the so-called "Dark Emperor of the South."
