Synopsis

Madoka Kaname and her best friend Sayaka Miki are just regular middle schoolers living in Mitakihara when they run into Kyuubey, a weird cat-like creature who offers them a deal: he'll grant them one wish in exchange for becoming magical girls and fighting witches. Mami Tomoe, an experienced magical girl already operating in the city, takes them under her wing to show them the ropes. Meanwhile, the mysterious new transfer student Homura Akemi keeps warning them to stay away from Kyuubey, but won't explain what she knows. After seeing firsthand how brutal witch hunting actually is, both girls figure it's better to pass on the whole thing. But then another magical girl shows up in town, and when Sayaka decides to use her wish to help someone she cares about, everything spirals out of control. That's when they finally discover what being a magical girl really costs—and it's way worse than anyone told them.
