Synopsis

In the world of Ars, humans have been locked in a brutal war with massive beasts that destroy everything in their path. The warriors fighting on the front lines are Paladins, and they rely on Clerics—people born with overwhelming magical powers they can barely control—to take down these creatures. Jiiro, a burned-out ex-Paladin still grieving his dead partner, meets Kuumi, a girl who's just discovered she has magical abilities. When they team up to defend the city from a beast attack, Jiiro realizes Kuumi is a fugitive from a research lab run by someone named Mezami. Now she's got people after her. Against his better judgment, Jiiro agrees to help her escape. He and Kuumi hit the road with Myaa, a kid who wears a cat headpiece and is apparently Kuumi's friend. As the three of them make their way across Ars, powerful people in high places start making their moves. And it doesn't take long for the group to figure out that the real danger isn't the monsters—it's other people.
