Rainbow Samurai
Oi! Ryouma
It's the mid-1800s, and Japan has deliberately shut itself off from the rest of the world. The Tokugawa Shogunate's grip is starting to show cracks, though few realize what's coming. In the countryside of Shikoku, a young boy named Ryoma grows up in a lower-class samurai family. Within a decade, he'll become one of the key figures who brings down the Shogun's rule and forces Japan to open its doors to the West. Our story starts with seven-year-old Ryoma—a dreamer, and a sensitive kid who despises violence. He's so soft-hearted that he'll cry over something as small as another child stepping on an insect. The other kids tease him relentlessly, even his own family calls him a "cry baby." But he's not actually a coward. His tears come from somewhere genuine: a deep sense that cruelty and injustice are wrong and shouldn't be allowed. His older sister is one of the few people who sees past his emotional nature and recognizes his real potential. She becomes his biggest protector and supporter, helping him through the rough patches.
