After escaping Hope's Peak Academy, Makoto Naegi and the other survivors join the Future Foundation, an organization fighting against despair. But things quickly fall apart when Naegi gets arrested and put on trial for the crime of defending the Remnants of Despair—a group the Foundation considers their enemies. With Kyouko Kirigiri and Aoi Asahina by his side, he awaits an uncertain verdict. Then Monokuma shows up. The mechanical bear hacks into the Foundation's supposedly secure systems and announces a new killing game. Within moments, the first body drops, and despair starts spreading all over again.
