Earth colonized space by establishing the Next Colonies. Things went south when Next rebelled and formed their own government, triggering a full-scale war. To adapt to the conflict, the military repurposed their multipurpose Metal Vehicles—MVs—into combat machines. Complicating matters, Terra, an Earth-based resistance faction, started stirring up trouble of their own. Then something weird showed up: a mysterious entity called S.A.C., or just "S" for short, that's basically an MV but. not quite. Next is desperate to capture it because they think it's the key to winning the war. Across the way, Hal, Terra's psychic leader, has been picking up on S's presence and is dying to understand what kind of power it actually possesses. None of these factions realize it yet, but the fate of all three groups is about to fall into the hands of a ragtag group of outlaws living on the abandoned Next 7 colony.
