Synopsis

Japan's terrorist threat has dropped to an all-time low, and a shadowy organization called Direct Attack (DA) deserves most of the credit. They run a program called Lycoris that trains orphaned girls to become assassins. Takina Inoue is one of their best—disciplined, driven, and obsessed with doing everything perfectly. But when a hostage rescue goes sideways because of her stubbornness, she gets reassigned. Bitter about losing the only home she's ever known, Takina reluctantly reports to her new posting: LycoReco, which is basically a cafe with a secret. Her new partner, Chisato Nishikigi, is nothing like what Takina expected. Despite being DA's legendary prodigy, Chisato seems almost indifferent to actual assassination work. Instead, she ropes Takina into taking on random jobs helping civilians. Things get even weirder when Takina watches Chisato take down armed criminals without killing them—something that goes against everything she's been trained to do. Desperate to get back to DA, Takina can't understand where Chisato's head is at. But Chisato's got her own mission: showing Takina that there's a lot more to life than ending it.
