Richard Ranasinghe de Vulpian is a British jewelry expert with serious mineralogy credentials and genuinely good looks to match. He runs a small shop in Japan, and one night drunk guys start harassing him until Seigi Nakata, a straight-laced college student, jumps in to help. Seigi finds out who Richard is and asks him to appraise a pink sapphire ring his late grandmother left behind. This chance meeting turns into something more—Seigi ends up working part-time at the shop.
