Humanity spread across the galaxy long ago, establishing the Galactic Alliance to guide exploration and keep the species thriving. But then the Hideauze showed up—bizarre alien creatures that sparked an all-out interstellar war just to keep mankind from going extinct. When 16-year-old lieutenant Ledo and his autonomous combat robot Chamber get caught in the fighting, things go sideways fast. Ledo loses control, gets ejected into deep space, and crash-lands on a planet that's almost entirely covered in water. A massive scavenger fleet called Gargantia fishes Chamber out of the ocean, figuring they've scored something valuable. Ledo, thinking they're hostile, sneaks aboard and takes a messenger girl named Amy hostage—until he realizes the people of Gargantia aren't actually a threat. Stranded and unable to reach his allies in space, Ledo has to figure out how to survive in this completely foreign world. Things start looking up, though, and he begins settling into a peaceful routine. But the ocean planet is hiding secrets, and Ledo's quiet days won't last long.
