All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku TV
Bannou Bunka Neko-Musume (1998)
The show follows Nuku Nuku's high school adventures and all the weird stuff that happens around her, but there's actually a bigger plot simmering in the background—the shadowy Mishima Industries is trying to take over the world using their products. Standing in their way are Kyuusaku Natsume, a slightly unhinged inventor, and Nuku Nuku herself, an android who's basically his son's best friend and bodyguard. Nuku Nuku's classmates are a collection of stereotypes taken to ridiculous extremes. Futaba, the class president, is a power-hungry control freak who can't stand not being in charge. Then there's Chieko Shirakaba, the rich snob constantly surrounded by her two devoted yes-girls. Beyond those two are your typical high school archetypes—a bookworm, a mystic, a scientist, a pop singer—except everyone leans hard into their gimmick. The mystic constantly warns about impending doom through tarot readings and spirit channeling. The pop singer literally only communicates in song. The bookworm? Always got her face in a book. It's all pretty silly and plays up the comedy throughout the series.
