A holy war between Athena and Hades has erupted repeatedly over 200 years to determine the fate of Earth. This story is set in 18th century Europe, about 243 years before the events of Saint Seiya. Three childhood friends—Tenma, Alone, and Sasha—grow up together happily until Tenma leaves to train as a saint at Sanctuary. There he reunites with Sasha and discovers she's the reincarnation of the Goddess Athena. His other best friend Alone, kind-hearted and artistic, has been chosen as the vessel for Hades, the god of the underworld. As Tenma rises to become the Pegasus Saint, he's forced into battle against Alone. The clash between Pegasus Tenma, King Hades, and Goddess Athena—and the intertwining of their three destinies—sets the stage for everything that happens in the original Saint Seiya.
