Jetter Mars
In 2015, Dr. Yamanoue, the Science Ministry's secretary, builds an android robot on an artificial island with plans to raise him as his son. The problem is the robot's artificial brain is defective, and he needs Dr. Kawashimo's expertise to fix it. The two men are friends but also rivals—personally and professionally. Yamanoue is a nationalist who sees the robot purely as a military asset, while Kawashimo is a pacifist who genuinely cares about robots. When Yamanoue calls for help, Kawashimo arrives with his young daughter Miri in tow. He installs the artificial brain, and Jet Mars is born. At first, Mars doesn't understand the world around him. The next day, he accidentally lifts Kawashimo and Miri high onto a building. When he notices tears in Miri's eyes, he's confused and asks Yamanoue what they mean. Yamanoue dismissively explains that only weak girls cry—strong men don't. Things escalate when another robot named Fainton malfunctions and goes berserk, tearing a massive hole in the island's facilities. Seawater floods in and chaos erupts. Mars freezes, unsure what to do, but Miri—who's actually a robot built by Kawashimo—springs into action using her superhuman abilities to seal the breach. Mars follows her lead, carrying metal sheets to help with repairs. Together they save both doctors from being swept away. Through this crisis, Mars learns two important lessons: how to cry, and how to help others.
