The Spearhead Squadron's disappearance doesn't stop San Magnolia's propaganda machine from running at full blast. Vladilena keeps her job as "Handler One," commanding another expendable 86th squadron in the never-ending fight against the Legion. Meanwhile, on the Western Front, Shinei and his squad are stuck at a military base in the newly reformed Federal Republic of Giad. The new government actually treats them like citizens—a massive change from San Magnolia. President Ernst Zimmerman even puts them up at his place, where they meet his adopted daughter Augusta Frederica, the last surviving Empress. For a while, things seem peaceful. But Shinei and the others can't shake the feeling that they belong in combat. It doesn't take long before they're back in the fight, now serving as part of the Federacy's Nordlicht Squadron with Augusta Frederica alongside them. The irony isn't lost on them: no matter which side they're on, the battlefield is the only place that ever felt like home.
